 What I wore under that big coat during fashion week.  I'm in love with this embellished vest.  The way it catches the afternoon light... I had to take advantage of it with the bit of downtime we had after one of the shows at this loft studio.  The ring is handmade by my talented friend Linda Lee.  She's extremely skilled with handcrafting and details.  The secret to pulling off glimmering accessories such as these- is always keeping the rest of the outfit simple and uncomplicated.  And all black never fails.

Fashion week was bitter cold.  We all know far too well how difficult it can be to pull together a presentable outfit when all you want to do is hide under your cozy covers.  This coat saved me, both climate-wise and aesthetically, during the week of show-hopping.  When the temps are this harsh, all you need is a statement coat, and the rest of the outfit is simple.  Colored furs (as you can see in my previous post) are trending all over at the moment and this coat was it for me.  Top it off with a wide brim hat and you have an outfit that will make leaving that down comforter a little more bearable.

Hello all! I am finally back after a very hectic but fabulous New York Fashion Week.  There was so much to see and lots of new designers and trends that I can't wait to share with you.  To kick off my MBFW recap, this is my look from Day 1.  The weather was quite a challenge this season (somehow the temperatures seem to always conveniently drop when you want to go out in your fabulous skirts and heels), so I chose to wear this luxe lavender vest on the warmest day the week had to offer. 
As you can see, I've also decided to switch up the hair.  The vest happened first, and the matching purples were pure coincidence!  Even the boots were a last minute score from an end-of-season sale at the Manolo Blahnik boutique.  Shopophyle tip: end-of-season sales are the best times to score some great finds!

I don't typically do much color-matching, but when I do, I keep the rest of the outfit simple (in this case all black) and make sure not to match my makeup - you don't want to look overly match-y.  Here I'm wearing Sephora's Rouge Cream Lipstick in Deep Reddish Plum.  It's one of my favorite cheaper lipsticks!  Stay tuned, I have lots of updates from the runways and the rest of my NYFW outfits!

Trend I'm Loving: Wide Leg Trousers

I always loved the wide-leg trouser.  I have fond memories of pairs I owned in middle school that would always make me look taller and sleeker than I really was.  So when I saw that the trend was coming back, I got secretly giddy with excitement.  As Derek Lam told Vogue, "there's a certain swagger" in the wide-leg pant.  It is a welcome change for me.  After several years of the skinny jean, I'm in total agreement that the style is starting to feel old and boring.  Not to mention the form-flattering benefits of the new silhouette.  Be sure to balance with a more modest and form-fitting shape up top, so you don't get swallowed up in fabric.

 You will certainly be seeing more of this look on here in the near future.  Bring on the sartorial swag.

This unseasonably warm weather  can get our wardrobes acting as confused as our thermometers.   It's always a funny time to me, watching people in the streets and seeing what they're wearing.  Puffy coat and Uggs to your right, light cardigan and flip-flops to your left.  What month are we in again?

When the temps rise uncharacteristically as they have been in the recent weeks, I like to take advantage and get creative, and one way I do so is by playing with lengths.  Shorts with a trench coat make an unexpected outfit to match the unexpected weather.  We may be far past summer, but you can still wear shorts paired  with some cool booties, with a cool wide brim hat for when the wind gusts pick up.
