City Vibes

Pink Overalls - Layana Aguilar
Shoes - Gola
Bag - Angela Roi

You all know how much I love jumpers and overalls.  The instance and ease of styling them.  I'm loving the quilting pattern on this pair by Layana Aguilar.  Sleek, chic, and easy to move in... I was a bit worried about these in the heat - you wouldn't think quilting + summer, but the wide leg shape of the pants actually made for plenty of ventilation on a hot summer day - with the additional advantage of freedom to navigate easily around city tourist crowds at the peak of the season (at a power-walking-New-York pace...guilty).
It's hot, I'm lazy.  All I had to do was pull this over my CK sports bra.  Voilà.  Thank you.

I'm trying to prep for this holiday weekend by increasing my intake of juices and veggies, which I what I tend to crave in this heat anyway.  But at night when it gets cool, I break down and crave pizza and carbs.  Whoops.  Ain't easy!
Though I just returned from vacation, I'm quite ready to take a long weekend away from this steamy city.

What are your weekend plans?

By the way, you may have seen on my Instagram feed that my hair is a new color now.  I will share that in my next post.  Stay cool!

New York is the kind of place that connects you with people you might never otherwise encounter.

Daniel Silverstain, for example.  A brilliant designer who grew up in Israel and whose designs are inspired by the city of Tel Aviv and its iconic structures.

I stopped by his pop up shop this weekend on 120 Thompson St. and got to play with some of the clothes.  I fell in love with this jacket immediately.  Though- I love most of the clothes he creates, as they all appeal to my affinity for technical, edgy, cool-girl aesthetic.

That's pretty much how I felt as soon as I put this jacket on.  Its lightness in weight does not compromise its capacity for character and ultimate-cool.  With its asymmetrical zipper and collar, this is no boring way to cover up.  You don't have to try much further after you zip it up.

His pieces are like wearable art, and make you immediately want to save up to own a part of it.  Lucky for you, I've got some info on a sample sale coming up hosted by AMCO NYC this week.  I highly recommend you check it out, even if it's just to see his designs.  The sale runs from Thursday 5/26 to Sunday 5/29 and you can see details here.

I feel it's such a different experience to touch and see clothing in person- even more so now that we are in an age in which online shopping is prevalent.  I often shop without an end goal of buying something specific.  There's a difference when you shop for leisure and to really appreciate the experience.  To get up close and personal with the clothes and get a true feel for the designer and the vision they're communicating through threads, seams, materials, zips...

Not everyone is into fashion (hopefully you are though if you're reading my blog!) but anyone can appreciate this city and get out of it all that it's worth- and much of it is by way of being open, to ideas, culture, and the people you may meet.  I have the amazing privilege of living here and I try to never take it for granted.  And...as long as I've been here (my entire life)...I still have not tired of it.

Not only do I get to learn about a place like Tel Aviv through hearing about Daniel's experiences, but I'm able to connect with a city I've never been to, and may never get the chance to see- through his eyes, his art, and his ideas.  To me, that is truly amazing.

What do you love about this city? Or about the city you call home?  Would love to hear about it.

Summer Cool

Dress & Shoes from Zara

Last week I went out to the Hamptons to style a shoot with super talented Zev Starr.  We did some fun looks out on the road and in the studio.

Nothing says summer chic in the Hamptons like a dainty blue-striped dress with a little bow in the front.  I particularly like this feature because the front tie is actually adjustable so that you can really fix it to your torso size.  I completed the girly look with these amazing metallic oxfords I found at Zara for that contrasting dose of cool that I love.

Who's ready for the summer?

Culottes - Zara
Top - American Apparel
Jacket - Zara
Boots - Sam Edelman

Guys.  It's late spring.  And it's still cold.  I'm kind of over it!  It's almost hard to believe that boots and jackets are still weather appropriate right now, but if I'm going to wear culottes with this weather I want to stay covered.

Counting down the days til I can ditch this jacket.

Happy Friday all, enjoy the weekend. xx

We pranced around
feet adorned
Patterned, dotted, striped and warm
My friends and i
slip 'n slide
dancing, hopping, jumping high
A day together
feels like forever
A bond brought on
through knits we donned

Happy socks, happy feet
Hang with your friends
Life feels complete

Even if for a moment
Even if for a laugh
Live, breathe
Keep walking
Your own two feet
